Strategic Energy Partnerships Accelerate Growth in West Africa Capacity Building

West Africa aims to build a resilient energy future with the West Africa Energy Cooperation Summit to be held in Lomé, Togo on December 3-5, 2024.

West Africa is preparing to take an important step towards building a resilient energy future. Regional cooperation and energy solutions will be discussed at the West African Energy Cooperation Summit (WA-ECS), which will be held under the auspices of the President of the Republic of Togo in Lomé, the capital of Togo, between December 3-5, 2024.

It is emphasized that cross-border cooperation will support developments in the energy sector. Recent progress in the West African Power Pool is fueling interest in the region’s energy market. Case studies of renewable energy projects in Senegal, Togo, Benin and Côte d’Ivoire will be shared. The Sheikh Mohammed Bin Zayed Solar Power Plant will be of particular interest, while critical discussions will be held on gas opportunities in countries such as Nigeria, Ghana and Senegal. There will also be increased collaboration between the mining sector and off-grid energy solutions, and ways to finance and mitigate risk.

With leading figures from government, utilities, investors and the private sector in attendance, the summit is expected to shape West Africa’s energy future. The WA-ECS agenda will witness important discussions in this field.
